About the Festival:
Gyula Castle Theater, the oldest theater venue in Hungary, has been captivating audiences since 1964 within the Gothic brick castle of Eastern Europe. Operating from June to August, this theater presents a wide array of programs on its lake stage and across various city locations. Beyond entertaining productions, its mission is to provoke thought and liberate its audience, aligning with its motto: “Gyula Castle Theater, where art sets you free.”
The repertoire spans historical dramas, contemporary prose, classical music, literary programs, opera, folk dance, and more. This annual festival hosts 40 to 45 performances by artists from Hungary and around the world, featuring special events like the World Festival of Classical Literature and the Music Festival Opening Gala, both offered free of charge.
Additionally, the festival showcases classic national works, enriching cultural storytelling. Its commitment extends beyond summer, with events held from October to April, ensuring residents and visitors enjoy vibrant entertainment year-round.
